[. . . ] (See page 155) Chapter 11 Receiving Faxes 105 If You Have Subscribed To A Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection (DRPD) Service With Your Telephone Company: Select <DRPD>. · When you receive a fax call: · When you receive a voice call: The machine will ring according to the ring pattern you have chosen and receive the fax automatically. Pick up the handset to answer the call. Setting The Ring Pattern Your telephone company will assign a distinctive ring pattern to each number when you order the DRPD service. Set the fax ring pattern that matches the pattern assigned by the telephone company. NOTE For details on the DRPD settings, see page 155. If You Receive Mainly Voice Calls And Sometimes Faxes, Or You Want To Receive Faxes Manually: Select <MANUAL MODE>. · When you receive a fax call: · When you receive a voice call: · For remote receiving: The telephone will ring. Pick up the handset and if you hear a beep, press [Black] or [Color] on the machine to receive the fax. If you are far from your machine, dial 25 (the remote receiving ID) on your telephone to receive faxes. NOTE · The machine can receive faxes automatically after the telephone rings for a specified length of time. (See page 155) · You can customize remote receiving by enabling/disabling it, or by changing the remote receiving ID. (See page 155) · If you have an answering machine connected to your machine that can carry out remote-control operations (controlling your answering machine from a remote telephone), the security code for this function may be the same as the remote receiving ID. If so, make sure you change the machine's remote receiving ID to make it distinct from the answering machine's security code. MACHINE MODE>. · When you receive a fax call: First the answering machine connected to your machine will respond to an incoming call, and then the machine will receive faxes automatically. The answering machine connected to your machine will respond to an incoming call. · When you receive a voice call: Adjusting The Answering Machine Adjust your answering machine as follows: · Set the answering machine to answer on the first or second ring. · In the message, tell your callers how to send a fax. 106 Receiving Faxes Chapter 11 Setting The Receive Mode Follow this procedure: 1 2 Press [Additional Functions]. Press [Set] twice. Ex: RECEIVE MODE FAX/TEL AUTO SW 3 Use [ ] or [ ] to select the receive mode. ­ <FAX/TEL AUTO SW>: Set to automatically switch between fax and voice calls. Faxes will be received automatically, and the machine will ring for voice calls. (If you connected a telephone to your machine, the telephone will not ring. ) ­ <FAX ONLY MODE>: Set to automatically receive faxes only. (If you connected a telephone to your machine, the telephone will not ring. ) ­ <DRPD>: Set if you have subscribed to a Distinctive Ring Pattern Detection (DRPD) service offered by some companies. ­ <MANUAL MODE>: Set for the machine to ring for fax and voice calls. ­ <ANS. MACHINE MODE>: Set for the answering machine connected to your machine to respond to an incoming call first, and then to receive faxes automatically. 4 Press [Set]. Chapter 11 Receiving Faxes 107 Memory Receiving If paper has run out, ink has run low, or a paper jam occurs while receiving faxes, the fax will be stored in memory, and the LCD will display a message such as <RECEIVED IN MEMORY>. The fax stored in memory will be printed when paper is reloaded, the ink tank is replaced, or the paper jam is cleared. NOTE · The machine can store up to 200 pages* of faxes in memory. (See page 152) · If the memory becomes full, the machine cannot receive the remaining faxes. Contact the sender and have him/her resend them. *When using ITU-T No. 1 chart (Standard mode) Paper Size And Type Load letter- or A4-size paper in the multi-purpose tray when you print the fax. IMPORTANT · If paper other than letter- or A4-size paper is loaded in the multi-purpose tray, only one sheet of the loaded paper is printed and the messages <RECEIVED IN MEMORY> and <CHECK PAPER SIZE PRESS SET KEY> are displayed. Load letter- or A4-size paper in the multi-purpose tray and then press [Set].
