Use this sewing machine only for its intended use as described in this manual. Only use attachments recommended by the manufacturer as described in this manual. [. . . ] q Stitch selector dial w Setting mark CAUTION: Do not turn the stitch selector dial while the needle is in the fabric; the needle may bend or break. Model 2800 q Model 8006 To select the stretch stitches (12­22 in model 2800 or 10­18 in model 8006), set the stitch length dial on S. S. e Stitch Length Dial Turn the stitch length dial until the setting mark points to the stitch length number. The " " mark shows the adjustment range for sewing the buttonhole. S. S 15 Fine Tuning Stretch Stitches To select the stretch stitches, set the stitch length dial at S. S. If the stretch stitches are uneven when you sew on a particular fabric, correct them by turning the stitch length dial. . S. S "­" "+" If the stitches are drawn out, correct them by setting the dial to the "­" side. If the stitches are compressed, correct them by setting the dial to the "+" side. Stitch Width Dial q Turn the stitch width dial until stitch width number is aligned with setting mark. q Stitch width dial w Setting mark w CAUTION: Do not turn the stitch width dial while the needle is in the fabric; the needle may bend or break. Do not set the stitch width less than 5 when using foot C; the needle may hit the foot causing the needle to bend or break. Variable needle position The needle drop position of the straight stitch (1, 12 on model 2800 and 1, 10 on model 8006) can be moved between the center (5) and left (0) with the stitch width dial. 16 Balancing Needle Thread Tension q The thread tension should be adjusted depending on the sewing materials, layers of fabric and sewing method. q Thread tension dial Balanced tension: The ideal straight stitch has threads locked between two layers of fabric, as illustrated. For an ideal zigzag stitch, the bobbin thread does not show on the right side (top side) of the fabric, and the needle thread shows slightly on the wrong side (bottom side) of the fabric. w Needle thread (Top thread) e Bobbin thread (Bottom thread) r Right side (Top side) of fabric t Wrong side (Bottom side) of fabric w r t e w Needle thread tension is too tight: The bobbin thread (bottom thread) will appear on the right side (top side) of the fabric. Trim the extra allowance after sewing. Model 8006 q3 w e 3-Step Zigzag Machine setting q Stitch: 3 w Stitch width: 3­5 e Stitch length: 0. 5 ­ 1. 5 r Thread tension: 3 ­ 6 t Presser foot: A . S. S r t This stitch is used to finish a raw edge on synthetics and other fabrics that tend to pucker. It is also used for mending tears. 21 q 12/10 w Triple Seam e Machine setting q Stitch: 12 (Model 2800) 10 (Model 8006) w Stitch width: 0 or 5 e Stitch length: S. S. S. S The triple seam is sewn with two stitches forward and one stitch backward, forming a seam that does not rip easily. Also use it when constructing items such as backpacks for extra strength. Carefully guide the fabric while sewing as the fabric moves back and forth. q 13/11 Rickrack or Triple ZIgzag w e Machine setting q Stitch: 13 (Model 2800) 11 (Model 8006) w Stitch width: 2­5 e Stitch length: S. S. S. S Sew on stretch fabrics in any area that you might use a zigzag stitch. This stitch is used as a decorative topstitch as well. 22 q2 w e r t Button Sewing Machine setting q Stitch: 2 w Stitch width: Adjust as necessary e Stitch length: Any r Thread tension: 3 ­ 7 t Presser foot: F y Feed dog: Lowered y . S. S Adjust the stitch width to match it with the span of the holes in the button. Turn the flywheel to check if the needle enters into each hole in the button. The holes in the button should align with the slot of the foot. A pin can be placed on the foot to form a shank. [. . . ] S. S Use this stitch to join two pieces of fabric to create an open work appearance, and to add design interest. q Wash-away stabilizer Sew slowly, guiding the fabric so the needle catches the folded edge on each side. Remove stabilizer after sewing is finished. q q3 Patchwork w e Machine setting q Stitch: 3 w Stitch width: 5 e Stitch length: 1 ­ 3 r Thread tension:1 ­ 4 t Presser foot: F .
