The moisture or oils on your fingers can decrease the print quality. You may be able to select 720 dpi if your DOS program supports 720-dpi printing. You can select from Bi-d, Uni-d, or Auto print directions using the default-setting mode. See "Using the Default-Setting Mode" on page 6-4 for details. Return unused cards to their original package as soon as possible after you finish printing. Unfavorable storage conditions, such as high temperature, humidity, or direct sunlight, can damage the paper. If your index cards don't feed properly or jam, see Chapter 8. u u u Envelopes When printing on envelopes, note the following: u Make sure that the adjust lever is set to the + position. See "Setting the adjust lever" on page 5-19. 5-26 Paper Handling u Before printing on envelopes from a DOS application program using the sheet feeder, the printer must be in the envelope printing mode. To enter this mode, load a single envelope in the sheet feeder and then eject it by pressing the Load/Eject button. Load envelopes with the flap edge first and the printable surface face down. When loading C5 envelopes, remove the rear edge guide and re-install it to match the length of the envelopes as shown below. u 5 . u EPSON recommends you set the top margin to 10 mm (0. 14 inch) for envelopes (the minimum is 8. 5 mm (0. 12 inch)) Paper Handling 5-27 u When you load envelopes into the manual feed slot, position the right edge guide so that its right edge is even with the arrow mark on top of the manual feed guide. See "Loading paper manually" on page 5-6. u u Do not print on the back side of envelopes. Also, avoid using envelopes that are too thin; they may curl during printing. Make sure that the printable surface of the labels is face up. u u For continuous labels: u Choose labels mounted on a continuous backing sheet with sprocket holes for use with the tractor feeder. Make sure the auto tear-off feature is set to off in the default-setting mode when using continuous labels. u u u Paper Handling 5-29 u Do not leave labels loaded in the printer between jobs; they may curl around the platen and jam when you resume printing.
