If “OVER” is displayed, lower exposure compensation and try again. - 152 - [WHITE BALANCE] Color temperature is an objective measure of the color of a light source, expressed in Kelvin (K). Light sources with a color temperature close to that of direct sunlight appear white; light sources with a lower color temperature have a yellow or red cast, while those with a higher color temperature are tinged with blue. You can match color temperature to the light source as shown in the following table, or choose options that differ sharply from the color of the light source to make pictures “warmer” or “colder”. Choose for redder light sources or “colder” pictures Choose for bluer light sources or “warmer” pictures 2000 K Candlelight Sunset/sunrise 5000 K Direct sunlight Shade 15000 K Blue sky - 153 - [COLOR] Adjust color density. - 154 - [SHARPNESS] Sharpen or soften outlines. - 155 - [HIGHLIGHT TONE] Adjust the appearance of highlights. - 156 - [SHADOW TONE] Adjust the appearance of shadows. - 157 - [NOISE REDUCTION] Reduce noise in pictures taken at high sensitivities. - 158 - [INTELLIGENT DIGITAL ZOOM] If [2. 0×] is selected, intelligent digital zoom magnifies the image to 2× while processing it for sharp, high-resolution results. Intelligent digital zoom may sometimes produce lower quality images than optical zoom. Intelligent digital zoom is not available in continuous mode or during movie recording. - 159 - [ADVANCED ANTI BLUR] Select [ON] to enable advanced anti blur in mode. When is displayed, the camera will take a series of exposures and combine them to form a single image, reducing “noise” (mottling) and blur. Advanced anti blur takes effect when the flash is off or in auto mode. - 160 - [SELECT CUSTOM SETTING] Recall settings saved with [EDIT/SAVE CUSTOM SETTING]. See Also [EDIT/SAVE CUSTOM SETTING] (Shooting Menu) - 161 - [EDIT/SAVE CUSTOM SETTING] Save custom camera settings for commonly-encountered situations. 1. Highlight a custom settings bank and press [MENU/OK] to select. 3. Adjust the following settings as desired. [ISO] [DYNAMIC RANGE] [FILM SIMULATION] [WHITE BALANCE] [COLOR] [SHARPNESS] [HIGHLIGHT TONE] [SHADOW TONE] [NOISE REDUCTION] To replace the settings in the current bank with the settings currently selected with the camera, highlight [SAVE CURRENT SETTINGS] and press [MENU/OK]. - 162 - [EDIT/SAVE CUSTOM SETTING] 4. Press [DISP/BACK]. A confirmation dialog will be displayed; highlight [OK] and press [MENU/OK]. Settings can be recalled using the [SELECT CUSTOM SETTING] option in the shooting menu. See Also [SELECT CUSTOM SETTING] (The Shooting Menu) - 163 - [FACE DETECTION] Intelligent Face Detection allows the camera to automatically detect human faces and set focus and exposure for a face anywhere in the frame for shots that emphasize portrait subjects. Choose for group portraits (in horizontal or vertical orientations) to prevent the camera from focusing on the background. Faces can be detected with the camera in vertical or horizontal orientation; if a face is detected, it will be indicated by a green border. If there is more than one face in the frame, the camera will select the face closest to the center; other faces are indicated by white borders. In some modes, the camera may set exposure for the frame as a whole rather than the portrait subject. If the subject moves as the shutter button is pressed, their face may not be in the area indicated by the green border when the picture is taken. - 164 - [PHOTOMETRY] Choose how the camera measures the brightness of the subject. [MULTI] [SPOT] Automatic scene recognition is used to adjust exposure for a wide range of shooting conditions. The camera meters lighting conditions in the selected focus area or at the center of the frame. Recommended when the background is much brighter or darker than the main subject. If [INTERLOCK SPOT AE & FOCUS AREA] is [ON] and [AREA] is selected for [AUTOFOCUS SETTING] > [AF MODE], the camera will meter lighting conditions in the selected focus area. If [INTERLOCK SPOT AE & FOCUS AREA] is [OFF], the camera will meter the center focus area. [AVERAGE] Exposure is set to the average for the entire frame. Provides consistent exposure across multiple shots with the same lighting, and is particularly effective for landscapes and portraits of subjects dressed in black or white. - 165 - [INTERLOCK SPOT AE & FOCUS AREA] Select [ON] to meter the current focus frame when [AREA] is selected for [AUTOFOCUS SETTING] > [AF MODE] and [SPOT] is selected for [PHOTOMETRY]. See Also [PHOTOMETRY] (The Shooting Menu) [AUTOFOCUS SETTING] (The Shooting Menu) - 166 - [MF ASSIST] Choose how focus is displayed in manual focus mode.
