Use the base unit or a handset to setup the answering machine. Answering Machine Turning the Answering Machine On or Off Press On/Off. · When the answering machine is on, the message counter shows the number of messages. The number flashes if there are any messages you have not listened to yet. · When the answering machine is off, -- appears in the message counter display. · When the message counter flashes CL, the clock has not been set or needs to be reset (for example, after a power outage). If there are any messages on the answering machine, the display alternates between flashing CL and flashing the number of messages. 33 Setting the Number of Rings Use the slide switch on the back of the answering machine to adjust how many times the phone will ring before the answering machine picks up the call. You can chose 3 rings, 5 rings, or Toll Saver. Setting the Day and Time 1 Press and hold day/check until you hear the current day. After you release day/check, the answering machine repeats the day and time. After you release hour, the answering machine repeats the day and time. After you release min, the answering machine repeats the day and time. 2 3 Note: When you first press min, the answering machine announces the minutes in 1-minute increments, then increases the rate to 5-minute increments. 34 Recording an Outgoing Message (OGM) 1 2 Press and hold annce. The message replays. Answering Machine 3 Note: To return to the default announcement, briefly press annce. To hear your announcement at any time, briefly press annce. 35 Recording a Voice Memo The voice memo features lets you leave a message for yourself on the answering machine. The answering machine saves the memo as a message, then beeps. 3 36 Checking Messages from the Handset 1 2 3 OR 1 2 3 Press MENU. Answering Machine Handset plays a voice menu listing options: 0 Erase message 1 Review message (each press goes back one message) 2 Play or stop playing a message 3 Skip message 4 Turn the answering machine on or off 5 Record new memo 7 Repeat the voice menu 37 Checking Messages Remotely from Another Phone 1 2 Dial your phone number. Press * followed by your security code (the default security code is 123) when you hear your outgoing message. Call your base unit. When the machine answers, press * and enter your three digit security ID number. Press 2 to play/stop messages Press 3 to skip forwards Press 1 to skip backwards Press 4 to answer (turns the answering machine on/off) Press 5 to record a memo Press 7 to repeat the memo Press 0 to delete the message If someone answers or makes a call from the phone while you are checking your messages, the remote answering machine functions are canceled. Changing Your Security Code 1. If the handset is on (you hear a dial tone), press Talk to turn it off. The answering machine repeats the new security code. 38 Screening Messages You can listen to a message while the caller is leaving the message on your answering machine. To interrupt the message and talk to the caller, press Talk. Erasing Messages Press erase while listening to the message. Answering Machine To erase all messages on the answering machine, press and hold erase for 2 seconds. The answering machine beeps and erases all messages. 39 Advanced Features Many of the advance features require at least 2 registered handsets to the base unit.
