[. . . ] Changing the ring count in TAM/FAX mode You can select from "2" (default), "3", "4", "5", "6", "7", or "AUTO". This setting can be changed by feature #06 on page 39, or using the cordless handset (page 37). ­ "AUTO": The unit answers after 2 or 3 rings when new messages have been recorded, and after 5 or 6 rings when there are no new messages. If you call your unit from a remote location to listen to new messages (page 37), you will know that there are no new messages when the unit rings for the 4th time. You can then hang up without being charged for the call. 4. 8 Receive polling (retrieving a fax placed on another fax machine) This feature allows you to retrieve a document from another compatible fax machine. Make sure that no documents are fed into your unit and that the other party's machine is ready for your call. 1 Press MMENUN repeatedly to display "POLLING". A MSETN 2 Dial the fax number. A MFAX STARTN 4. 9 Junk fax prohibitor (preventing fax reception from undesired callers) If you subscribe to Caller ID service (page 24), this feature prevents fax reception from calls that do not show caller information. Additionally, the fax machine will not accept faxes originated from numbers that match the ones on a programmable junk fax prohibitor list. Important: R This feature does not work when manual reception is performed. 4. 7. 2 Activating FAX ONLY mode 1 Make sure feature #77 is set to "FAX ONLY" (page 44) beforehand. 2 Press MAUTO ANSWERN repeatedly to display "FAX ONLY MODE". R The MAUTO ANSWERN indicator on the base unit turns ON and (next to the battery icon) appears on the cordless handset display. Make sure feature #77 is set to "TAM/FAX" beforehand (page 44). Important: R When callers leave messages, the unit records the day and time of each message. Make sure the date and time have been set correctly (page 19). 6. 2 Listening to recorded messages When the unit has recorded new voice messages: ­ The MAUTO ANSWERN indicator will flash when auto answer is turned ON. ­ The total number of recorded messages will flash on the base unit display. 6. 2. 1 To play back messages Press MPLAYBACKN. R After playing back all of the new messages, the MAUTO ANSWERN indicator will stop flashing but will remain lit up when auto answer is turned ON. If you press MPLAYBACKN at this time, all the recorded messages will be played. 1 MGREETING RECN R A long beep will sound. 6. 2. 2 Useful features during playback To repeat a message Press MFN while listening to the message. R If you press MFN within 5 seconds of the beginning of the message, the previous message will be played. R To play back a specific message, press MFN or MEN and search for the message you want to listen to. Voice time/day stamp During playback, the unit will announce the day of the week and time that each message was recorded. If you subscribe to Caller ID service During playback, you can call back the displayed name or number using the base unit.
