Use the four-way controller (23) to select [EV Compensation]. Use the four-way controller (45) to select the EV value.
The selected EV value is saved. You can choose the EV setting in the range of 2. 0 EV to +2. 0 EV in 1/3 EV steps.

The setting is complete and the camera returns to capture status. When the histogram is displayed, bright portions and dark portions are indicated on the LCD monitor, enabling you to check the exposure. (p. 70)

The LCD monitor display changes in the following sequence each time you press the 4/W button: Normal Display, Histogram + Info, No Icons. For details of each display mode, refer to "Monitor Indications" (p. 16).

Using the Histogram A histogram shows the brightness distribution of an image. The horizontal axis represents brightness (dark at the left and bright at the right) and the vertical axis represents the number of pixels. (Dark) Brightness (Bright) The shape of the histogram before and after shooting tells you Dark portions Bright portions whether the brightness and contrast are correct or not, and lets you decide if you need to use EV compensation and take the picture again.

Understanding Brightness If the brightness is correct, the graph peaks in the middle. If the image is too dark, the peak is on the left side, and if it is too bright, the peak is on the right side.

When the image is too dark, the part to the left is cut off (dark portions) and when the image is too bright, the part to the right is cut off (bright portions). Bright portions blink red on the LCD monitor and dark portions blink yellow.

Understanding Contrast The graph peaks gradually for images in which contrast is balanced. The graph peaks on both sides but sinks in the middle for images with a large difference in contrast and low amounts of mid-level brightness.

Standard Use this mode when the distance to the subject is 40 cm (15. 7 in. ) or more. The camera is focused on the subject in the autofocus area when the shutter release button is pressed halfway.
