[. . . ] Show tips: InstantAudio can provide fly-by tool tips for many program elements when the mouse pointer hovers over them momentarily. Clear this checkbox to hide the tool tips if you prefer not to see them. Folder for temporary files: Use this field, either directly or in conjunction with the Browse button, to specify the folder for temporary files created by InstantAudio. User interface: File types When you double-click a data file in Windows Explorer, the file type is used to decide which application program should open to display the file. Use the checkboxes on this page to specify which file types you want handled by InstantAudio. User interface: Controls The single option on this Preferences page lets you choose how the dial controls in InstantAudio should respond to the mouse. Circular: In this mode, you control the dial simply by clicking on it. This immediately sets the dial angle to match the line between the center of the dial and the point where you clicked. You can further modify the position by continuing to hold the mouse button down Chapter 12: The InstantAudio window 125 as you drag the mouse. This is a quick way to set a dial, but might be a bit too lively for fine tuning. Relative circular: This is identical to the Circular mode except that the dial does not jump to the mouse position when you click the mouse, but responds only in the dragging phase that follows, as you move the mouse in a circular path around the center of the dial. Linear: This mode works like Relative circular except that you must drag the mouse in a vertical straight line rather than a circle. The dial's value increases as you move the mouse up, and decreases as you move it down. User interface: Skins Skins are the different user interface stylings you can apply to InstantAudio to change its look and feel. In general, the same functions are available with every skin, even though the on-screen controls may change. Select the skin you wish to use from the drop-down list. Visualization This Preferences page provides settings relating to the visualization plug-ins. · Display mode: Select one of the available display resolutions for the visualization window's full-screen mode. Increasing the resolution too much could result in an unsatisfactory frame rate, depending on your system. · Frame rate limit: Set the maximum frame rate per second that the plug-ins may use. If this rate is set too high, the visualization display might slow down other programs on your computer. 126 InstantCD/DVD · Show framerate: Displays the used frame rate in the Visualization window. · Show playback time: This option displays the playback time of the currently-playing title in the visualization window when it is in full-screen mode. · Show info when song changed: The next song title will be displayed in the visualization window when it is in full-screen mode. · Show info when visualization changed: With this option, if you change the visualization in full-screen mode (using a key command), the name of the visualization is displayed in the window. · Always on top: When this option is in effect, the visualization window remains always visible, on top of other open windows. · Slideshow: The visualization plug-ins are invoked in turns, changing from one to the next at an interval specified in seconds with the Slide Interval setting. The Slide Mode setting lets you decide whether the visualizations should be changed in sequence or randomly. · Show plug-ins: Opens a dialog listing the available plug-ins, together with their properties. THE CONTEXT MENUS Throughout InstantAudio you can bring up different "context menus" by pressing the right mouse button. These give you quick access to functions that you need in a particular part of the program. Chapter 12: The InstantAudio window 127 The standard context menu This menu appears when you right-click in most areas of the InstantAudio main window. Open location: If you are connected to the Internet, this function can be used to connect to an Internet radio station: simply input the address (URL).
