Detailed instructions for use are in the User's Guide.

[. . . ] To avoid the risk of scalding, don't open the lid till the coffee maker has cooled. 6 Check that the lid is properly closed before using the coffee maker. 9 Route the cable so it doesn't overhang and can't be caught or tripped over accidentally. 10 Unplug the coffee maker when not in use, before moving or cleaning. [. . . ] The amount will vary with the type of coffee and individual taste, but we suggest starting with one scoop per cup of water. 11 Use the grip to close the coffee maker lid. brew strength 12 Turn the brew strength control (on top of the lid) anti-clockwise to darken the brew, clockwise to lighten the brew. 13 To lighten the brew, the strength control diverts some of the water past the coffee grounds. 15 Plug the coffee maker into the power socket (switch the socket on, if it's switchable). 16 Press 1 the switch will glow, and a few seconds later, coffee will start to drip into the carafe. power up a quick cup 17 You may remove the carafe to pour coffee while it's brewing the non-drip valve will stop coffee dripping on to the hotplate. 18 To avoid overflowing, replace the carafe within 30 seconds this may not sound much, but its more than enough time to pour a couple of cups. done 19 After brewing, the hotplate will stay on, to keep your coffee hot. 20 If left for much more than an hour, chemical changes in the coffee liquor start to affect the flavour, so it's best to pour it away and make a fresh pot. pouring 21 To pour, remove the carafe from the hotplate, and pour from the spout. 23 You may notice some resistance when you replace the carafe this is caused by the top of the carafe pushing against the non-drip valve. 25 Unplug the coffee maker and let it cool down fully before cleaning, or for 10 minutes before refilling. caution beware of steam when you open the lid 4 finished? ground coffee 26 If you want to buy ready-ground coffee, medium-ground filter coffee will give the best results. We suggest starting with two rounded teaspoons of medium-ground coffee per cup. storing coffee 27 Coffee is best kept in an airtight container in a cool dry place, or in the fridge. Exposure to air oxidises coffee and allows the flavour to evaporate. milk 28 There's a great deal of contention on the subject of milk in coffee. If you like milk in your coffee, use warm or hot milk, to avoid overcooling the coffee. To extract maximum flavour from the coffee, it should be cool enough not to scald or burn the mouth, but hot enough to let the flavour fill the mouth, nose and sinuses, not just the taste buds. bottled water 29 If you use bottled water, check that there are no added ingredients, flavourings, etc. The carbon dioxide that gives the sparkle will affect the flavour of your coffee. taste 30 Don't be tempted to reheat coffee in the coffee maker. You'll damage the coffee maker and the coffee will be undrinkable. Residue from a previous brew will spoil your coffee. care and maintenance 31 Switch the coffee maker off (0), unplug it (switch the socket off first, if it's switchable), and let it cool down fully. 33 Use the filter handle to lift out the filter, then tip the used coffee grounds into the bin. 35 Use the tab on the filter holder to lift the filter holder out of the coffee maker. 37 Wash the filter, filter holder and carafe in warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly and dry. [. . . ] If it's not working, read the instructions, check the plug fuse and main fuse/circuit breaker. If that doesn't solve the problem ring Customer Service they may be able to offer technical advice. If they advise you to return the product to us, pack it carefully, include a note with your name, address, day phone number, and what's wrong. If under guarantee, say where and when purchased, and include proof of purchase (till receipt). [. . . ]
