[. . . ] Discard used batteries according to local hazardous material regulations. The battery used in this device may present a fire or chemical burn hazard if mishandled. Keep away from children. If your convertible notebook is connected to AC power, or if it has a charged multibay battery installed, you can change the main battery while the convertible notebook is turned on. If your convertible notebook has only one battery and it is not plugged into an AC outlet, you must turn the convertible notebook off while changing the battery. To change the main battery: 1 Disconnect your convertible notebook from the optional port replicator. 2 If your convertible notebook is on and is connected to AC power or has a charged multibay battery installed, go to Step 3. -ORIf your convertible notebook is on, is not plugged into an AC outlet, and does not have a charged multibay battery installed, save your work and turn off the convertible notebook. 3 Make sure the LCD panel is in notebook mode, then close the LCD panel. 5 Slide the battery lock to the unlocked position, then slide the battery release latch. 38 www. gateway. com Changing batteries 6 Slide the battery out of the bay. 7 Slide a recharged battery into the bay until it snaps into place. 10 Open the LCD panel. Installing a multibay battery Warning Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced. Replace only with a battery specifically manufactured for your Gateway convertible notebook. Your convertible notebook's modular bay accepts a multibay battery. The multibay battery charges when the convertible notebook is connected to AC power. To install a multibay battery: Swap the multibay battery for a bay module by following the instructions in "Changing modules" on page 30. Caution If you are using a multibay battery instead of a main battery, insert the weight saver that was included with your multibay battery into the main battery bay. 39 CHAPTER 2: Checking Out Your Convertible Notebook www. gateway. com Recalibrating the battery Important Do not interrupt the battery recalibration process. If recalibration is interrupted, you must start the process over again. If your convertible notebook unexpectedly goes into Standby mode while you are using it but the battery charge is not low, you may need to recalibrate your battery. You should also recalibrate the battery periodically to maintain the accuracy of the battery gauge. To recalibrate the battery: 1 Connect the AC adapter, then turn on your convertible notebook. 4 Highlight Battery Auto Learning, then select Enabled by pressing the spacebar. 5 Open the Exit menu, then highlight Exit Saving Changes and press ENTER. 6 Select Yes, then press ENTER. The battery recalibration process begins and a screen opens showing you the progress. When the recalibration has finished, the message "Press [Esc] key to exit" appears. 7 Press ESC. The battery charge indicator now displays an accurate battery charge.
